Hello
this time I will discuss about the importance of money to happiness
- How Happiness Relationship With Money ?
- Important Is Money For Happiness?
How
is the relationship between money and happiness is an interesting
question, intricate and sensitive to be discussed. Many people seem
to be very confused about this point. However, it is needed
occasionally we contemplate these two things to make our lives better
future.
According
to Gretchen Rubin of The Happiness Project book (2009), the money
that meet basic human needs. Money is a means and an end of
something. This is a way to keep score, winning sense of security,
practice generosity, and gained recognition. Money can lead to a
desire to dominate or idolize. Money symbolize status and success.
Money can create strength in a relationship and in the world. Money
often retain things where we feel short: if only we had the money, we
would be adventurous or respected or become a philanthropist. So the
money is needed for survival.
- Range of views
Gretchen Rubin believes
that "money can not buy happiness", but it is quite clear
that many people are convinced of the importance of money for their
happiness. Money is not without benefits. In fact, research shows
that people in rich countries reported happier than people in poor
countries, and in a particular country, the people with more money
tend to be happier than those with less. Also, once the
countries become richer, their citizens are less focused on the
physical and economic security as well as more concerned with
objectives such as happiness and self-realization.
Prosperity
enables us to shift attention to the things that are more
transcendent, long life comfort not only material, but also on the
meaning, balance, and joy.
One
important way a person evaluate their situation is to compare
themselves to those around them and with their own previous
experiences. For example, people measure themselves against their
peers, and make more money than others in their age group tend to
make people happier. In line with this, research shows that people
who live in neighborhoods with people who are more affluent tend to
be less happy than those who are in an environment where their
neighbors have relatively equal income with which they earn.
Proponents
of the view that "money can not buy happiness" in contrast
to the results of a study showing that people in America do not
assess their quality of life is much higher than people living in
poverty in Calcutta-though, of course, they live in a state which is
much more convenient. Most people, around the world, rate themselves
as "somewhat happy".
It
is amazing that people can find happiness, both in situations of
poverty and in affluent circumstances. That's the mental toughness of
a human.
- Money can buy happiness?
Obviously
not, money alone can not buy happiness. Can money help buy happiness?
Yes, you can if used wisely. Rich or poor, people make choices about
how they spend the money, and options that can increase or decrease
happiness. It is a mistake to assume that if the money will affect
everybody the same way. There is no statistical averages that can
show how a particular individual will be influenced by money, it
depends on the state of the environment and individual temperament.
Rubin
identifies three factors that make up the importance of money for
someone:
1.
Depending on what kind of person you are.
Money
has a different value for each person. You might like collecting
modern art, or prefer renting old movies. You may have six children
and sick parents and dependent on you, or you may not have a child
with parents who are self-contained. You might like to travel, or
rather a lot at home.
2.
Depending on how you spend money.
You
may tend to buy branded bags, or buy a flowering plant. You might
splurge for the device, or may be more generous to the new bike.
3.
Depending on how much money you have relative to those around you and
relative to your own experience.
Terms
of health
When
money or health is an issue, then you will think of another; when
these two things are not an issue, you do not think much about it.
Money and health contribute to happiness, especially negatively; lack
or loss of both of these provide more unhappiness than to have money
and health will lead to happiness.
Being
healthy does not guarantee happiness. Many healthy people feel very
unhappy. Many of them wasted their health or rely on it for granted.
In fact, some people may even be better with some physical
limitations because it would prevent them from making destructive
choices. However, the fact that good health does not guarantee
happiness does not mean that good health is not a matter for
happiness. Similarly with money. If used wisely, money or health can
contribute greatly to happiness.
That's according to Gretchen Rubin views.
Therefore, I agree with the view Rubin. Because happiness can not be bought by money , because happiness can be obtained at any time, and anywhere. So I created this article to fulfill one of the tasks of my courses, if there are errors in the writing or words are difficult to understand I apologize profusely.
